Reflections
Just a little tadge of scepticism on Brucey's impact so far....but with hope for the future

Now that the dust has settled on a hectic period of matches that held Wednesdayites in a sort of hopeful trance like state, it might now be time to reflect on the period of Brucey’s reign at S6. Although his time has got off to a positive start, (along with the Lee Bullen and Steve Agnew / Steven Clemence period), on reflection the undefeated period contained far too many un-charismatic draws and not enough wins. We need to also consider the fact that we were under the cosh for long periods away at Stoke and Rotherham of all places, and although we had arguably the better chances we were too happy to concede ground against the truffle sniffers at home in the nil nil draw. We beat Blackburn with the aid of a goalkeeper blunder, and we beat a Forest side that looked far less than average. The injury situation has hamstrung us unfairly it must be said, but all things considered we need to make huge strides over the close season; seven or eight players need to be shown the door by Brucey, many of these have become stale at Hillsborough and need to challenge themselves elsewhere. The Carvalhal days turned stale in the end, featuring too many slow highly paid older players who appeared too comfortable in their surroundings, players who were losing games that they should have won. The Lahukay days set off well, arresting the failure of the Carvalhal regime using Adam Reach and several squad players along with academy lads, but then his regime turned stale, failing to play two of our best and most consistent performers for no apparent reason apart from his stubborn streak. Although Brucey’s  first couple of months have seen a drastic improvement, especially when Aarons , Lazaar and Iorfa have been on the pitch, we need several more recruits of the same calibre, along with the ever improving Michael Hector signing on a permanent deal. Looking at the needless size of our squad, and the number of players out of contract this summer, it should not really take too much work for a man of Brucey’s experience and contacts to improve the squad for next season while operating within the financial restraints. So hopefully we will be challenging for promotion from the outset next year.
